چکیده

Visualisation of small fluid droplets at a high resolution in the scanning electron microscope is a challenging task, especially if they have to be observed at the interface between two solid substrates. This report describes a Cryo-SEM approach, successfully applied for visualising droplets of various fluids, deposited on the substrates or located at the interface between two surfaces. Fragile plant trichomes, bearing glandular heads, filled (Lycopersicon) or covered with adhesive fluids (Drosera, Roridula), were also studied. In order to visualise behaviour of thin droplets at the interface, the preparation method of prints on a defined smooth metallized polymer substrate is described. The Cryo-SEM approach allows not only the visualisation of micro-droplet behaviour on various substrates, but also estimation of the contact angle of fluids. That is why it can also be applied for physico-chemical characterisation of interactions between small amounts of liquids and various biological and non-biological substrates.

Prediction of the spread of Corona-virus carrying droplets in a metro wagon - A computational based artificial intelligence approach

Assessing the risk of transmitting the corona virus is important for protecting public health under the COVID-19 epidemic. Public transportation such as bus and metro wagon, are the most important source of COVID 19 dispersion. In the last decade, numerical simulation plays important roles in predicting. In this case study, by a combination of numerical simulation and artificial intelligence, t...

Evaporation Characteristics of Diesel and Biodiesel Fuel Droplets on Hot Surfaces

In CI engines, the evaporation rate of fuel on various hot surfaces, including the combustion chamber, has a significant effect on deposit formation and accumulation, the exhaust emissions of PM and NOx, and their efficiency. Therefore, the evaporation of liquid fuel droplets impinging on hot surfaces has become an important subject of interest to engine designers, manufacturers, and researcher...

Integration of Cryo-FIB-SEM Imaging into Dynamic Thermo-fluidic Experimentation: Applications to Multifunctional Nanoengineered Surface Design

Cryogenic FIB-SEM is typically applied for milling and imaging of samples that are static in nature prior to cryopreservation, e.g. cells [1], sunscreen [2] or hydrated clays [3]. In contrast, here new routes of integrating cryo-FIB-SEM imaging into dynamic thermo-fluidic experimentation outside the microscope are described. This approach enables cross-sectional and 3D nanoscale imaging of diff...

Cryo-SEM studies of latex/ceramic nanoparticle coating microstructure development.

Cryogenic scanning electron microscopy (cryo-SEM) was used to investigate microstructure development of composite coatings prepared from dispersions of antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles (approximately 30 nm) or indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles (approximately 40 nm) and latex particles (polydisperse, D(v): approximately 300 nm). Cryo-SEM images of ATO/latex dispersions as-frozen s...

A genetic algorithm-based approach for numerical solution of droplet status after Coulomb fission using the energy

As a droplet moves, due to evaporation at the surface, the droplet size is gradually reduced. Due to decreasing the size of the droplets moving in the spray core, the surface charges become closer and the repulsive force between the charges increases. When the Coulombic force overcomes the surface tension force (Rayleigh instability) the droplet breaks into smaller droplets (Coulomb fission). T...
